Fruit Industry Grant

Fruit Industry Grant

Fruit Industry Grant. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.
Have you been thinking about learning a bit more about the fruit industry? Do you live in north central Washington? Then you should check out the Miller Travel & Study Grant. Lynette Smith is the Communications Coordinator with the Washington State Horticultural Association.

SMITH: The Charles J. Miller Travel Fund was established by the family of Charles J. Miller to encourage travel and study by fruit industry personnel of north central Washington and the fund is actually a living memorial to a great field man and industry leader.

The goal of the grant is to help people further their tree fruit understanding by allowing people to travel to other regions and countries to learn new tree fruit skills. Smith says who is eligible to apply.

SMITH: As far as people who would be eligible, they would be fruit industry field men, extension workers or other fruit industry service personnel but they have to be in the area of north central Washington and located in Chelan, Douglas, Okanagan and Grant County.

The grant will be given away at this year’s annual Hort convention and according to Smith is not given out every year.

SMITH: The award is presented every other year when the Washington State Horticultural Association’s Annual Meeting is located in Wenatchee so the award will be presented this year at our annual meeting luncheon.

The annual meeting takes place on December 5th, 6th and 7th. Deadline for applications is November 15th and for more information contact Lynette Smith at the Horticultural Association or on their web site.
