Wheat industry video on federal export market development programs

Farm and Ranch June 9, 2011 The long-term impact on global demand for U.S. wheat and farm income would be devastating if Congress fails to fund the Market Access and the Foreign Market Development program administered by USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service.

That is the argument made in a new video presentation released by U.S. Wheat Associates, the wheat industry’s export market development organization. Randy Suess, Washington wheat grower and vice chairman of U.S. Wheat Associates, says the video helps people understand the importance of the marketing program funds.

Suess: “The people we put in there is the country of Nigeria who from ten years ago went from buying zero wheat to two years ago being the number one buyer of wheat from the United States. So we have had some great success stories and you hear on the video those people talking about that and how it was the efforts of U.S. Wheat Associates that really leaned them toward buying our wheat. So it was a great success story and it is one that is repeated in smaller measures all around the world.”

The video is titled “Export Market Development: A Vital Partnership with U.S. Wheat.” It is posted on U.S. Wheat Associates website at www.uswheawt.org and on YouTube at www.youtube.com/USWheatAssociates.

The dollars organizations like U.S. Wheat get from federal export marketing programs are matched with grower dollars from wheat states like those in the Pacific Northwest.
