Providing Solutions for Northwest Tree Fruit

Providing Solutions for Northwest Tree Fruit. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Line On Agriculture.

Tree fruit growers in the Pacific Northwest know that an integrated pest management system is crucial. Mike Doerr, is the new technical sales support representative in the Pacific Northwest for Chemtura Agrosolutions and is looking forward to putting his experience to work.

DOERR: My title is technical sales support. Some companies will call it a field development rep or a technical rep but mostly to address the technical issues of the products and the crops. Try to identify weaknesses in IPM programs and try to identify niches where our products will work well. When you are doing that there is a lot of education that has to go along with our sales staff and growers to help identify problems.

Doerr had been working with WSU’s Tree Fruit Research Commission.

DOERR: When I was at the university I always worked with development reps and we always had a good relationship and I think I can maintain that. And part of my responsibilities is to maintain the relationship with the university researchers. I’ve always enjoyed that and the outreach and education has always been a big part of what I did at WSU and I think I’ll continue to do it. Hopefully working with growers at their meetings and things.

His experience at WSU has really prepared him for this position.

DOERR: I feel like I have a pretty good understanding of the tree fruit market. But boy, I spent all my time doing tree fruit entomology and in the Pacific Northwest we grow a lot of crops. (laughs) So I have a lot learning to do on some of these other systems but tree fruits are a big driver for our company and I feel that’s where I’m strongest and where I can help Chemtura the most.

Doerr says the company is committed to the Pacific Northwest in many commodities.

DOERR: Tree fruits and hops and berries and Christmas trees all this stuff so. I like the fact too that they have a pretty strong branded product line. That was attractive to me. They have some good products for herbicides and miticides, fungicides, insecticides.

Chemtura Agrosolutions is working with an Italian company right now to develop new active ingredients. If you want more information on Chemtura’s line of products visit their website at www.ChemturaAgroSolutions.com/us. More tomorrow.
