Debunking Meat Myths
This is Susan Allen for Open Range. If you think about it, the meat industry, unlike any other food sector, including sea food is constantly combating a barrage of miss truths, When Open Range returns some new tools consumers can use to answer questions about the nutrition, safety, ethics sustainability of beef. While this program focus’s on livestock and it’s contribution to America, The American Meat Institute along with the American Meat Science Association works across the whole meat sector, including pork and poultry. They have recently announced that they’ve launched a Meat Myth Crushers campaign to help reconnect Americans to modern food production and “crush” some of the popular myths we routinely hear about meat. Their website meatmythcrushers.com offers science based facts and videos from our not only some of our most respected universities put also from scientists who have committed their careers to keeping our food supply safe, nutritious and sustainable thus making for a great classroom tool. At the meat myth crushers Facebook page anyone can take part in a forum that’s designed to encourage dialogue about meat and poultry myths. Each week for the next three months a new myth will introduced and discussed. Unlike any other era, today I can select meat for my family not merely by price or cut, but by feed, ethics and sustainability meaning without credible research groups this transparency can be easily manipulated.
