4-20 IAN Locavore
While growing up during the 50's and 60's, my friend Dan used to drive down to the southeastern part of Kansas to buy peaches from orchards around Wichita. About two years ago, he made a futile attempt to find any of those orchards via an internet search and soon discovered a tremendous void of information in regards to small farms across the country. So Dan Sutton started locavorenetwork.com to provide an online meeting place for Locavores, local Growers, Producers, Restaurants, Wineries and retail stores, to facilitate the search for locally grown and produced products and to provide marketing tips for growers and producers. Here’s how things are going: “On the site certainly traffic is up, what started out as just a database is now a networking site, there are users on there, growers on their that have it linked to their Facebook, Twitter and their websites, logs, and I have had communication from a farm and website in Belgium who wants to replicate the website, we’ve had interest from Australia, they want to replicate the site down there so the locally grown movement is not something that is just a phenomenon in the United States. It is very busy. It gets 190,000 page hits per month which is a lot.
