Wheat Growers in Tampa for Commodity Classic

Farm and Ranch March 3, 2011 Some wheat growers from the Pacific Northwest and from around the United States are in Tampa, Florida this week for the 2011 Commodity Classic. The event is a convention and trade show for wheat, corn, soybean and sorghum growers.

This is the fourth year the National Association of Wheat Growers has participated in Commodity Classic and its Chief Executive Officer Dana Peterson says it is the place to be to network and talk issues with growers from the several organizations.

Peterson: “Talk about the federal budget situation, I think will be a very interesting discussion this year. The leading up to the farm bill discussions later this fall, also going to be a point of discussion, as well as how all of the EPA regulations, environmental regulations of all kinds that are coming up across the country might affect our growers and how we as organizations representing those farmers can come together to work on solutions for those problems.”

The National Association of Wheat Growers will also hold its annual meeting during the Commodity Classic. Policy committees met Wednesday and the board of directors is scheduled to meet Saturday.

NAWG is the principal sponsor of a large Wheat Industry trade show booth that melds education and fun and for the second straight year the NAWG Foundation is sponsoring two learning center sessions on topics of importance for wheat growers.
