Stephen Bagley of Victor won top honors in this year’s Young Farmer and Rancher Discussion Meet. This young man is not only a bright and articulate young farmer but he is also quite the entrepreneur. He would describe himself as a traditional beef rancher, first and foremost, but he also does other things with his ranch. He has a gravel pit that he exploits in the summer, then uses his heavy equipment for snow removal on county roads in the winter. He uses his horses to run cattle, but also uses them to do outfitting trips in the glorious mountains surrounding his ranch. Oh…but something else. Here’s Stephen answering my question what do you do? “I’m a diversified guy. I grew up with a dairy operation and also beef cows. 4 years ago we sold the dairy, we still have the beef cows and over the last 10-15 years, we’ve added elk, buffalo and some outfitting.” Stephen says sales of his buffalo and elk meat are through the roof to consumers and restaurants in his neck of the woods. A true entrepreneur.
