2-11 IAN Gov & Truman
A serious talk with the Governor about Idaho’s economy.
In a conversation with Governor Otter the other day, I asked this question. Harry Truman said the buck stops here. Are you feeling “Harry Trumanish” right now? You’re the state’s CEO. How can you turn Idaho around economically. “Harry Truman was right and that should be the rule of thumb for any CEO, you have to take the blame and the credit. With the State of Idaho under Article 7, Subsection 11 you can’t spend more than you bring in. That fits for Idaho. I’ve gota study and present a balanced budget and I did. Some of that asked for some serious cuts in for instance Health and Welfare. We need to look for every efficiency we can find and we need to limit ourselves to what the law says we’re supposed to do. Years ago when the State had money they’d start new programs and the programs became entitlements. Businesses were entitled to them. Now we’re going back and asking the businesses to pay the real costs for issuing permits. There’s no reason that should come out of the General Fund.”
