2-9 IAN Corn Yields
Corn yields down from what USDA originally thought…I’m DS
I saw this blog the other day that said “Just when feeders thought they'd seen the worst feed prices in decades, forecasters have cut U.S. corn yields by a historic 11 bushels per acre since September. This week analysts shaved another 1.5 bushels per acre off the U.S. average corn yield. I thought to myself what does that mean. How did the count or estimate get off by that much so I called up Mark Lambert of the NATIONAL CORN GROWERS ASSOCIATION and asked him what that meant: At first he seemed a little defensive “It means we grew the third largest corn crop of all time!” After asking for a little more explanation…”It’s part of the normal process. USDA puts out crop projections They adjust it throughout the growing season and once the crop has been raised they continue to adjust that.
Corn demand remains strong because of ethanol. Ethanol production is up by 5 percent this year, after gaining 160 percent over the past five years. This is the third straight year that global corn consumption has outpaced production.
