12-22 IAN FB on Wolves

There are 2 positions on the wolf controversy and they are basically to call them endangered and protect them which means ending wolf hunting or, alternatively, as Governor Otter would like, declare wolves as a healthy population that is quickly recovering, let states manage their own wolves and allow hunts.  How do you thing ag people feel? Particularly livestock producers who have lost part of their livelihoods to wolves.

Delegates to the 71st Annual Idaho Farm Bureau Convention amended the organization’s policy on wolves recently,  supporting a predator classification. Delegates expressed frustration and skepticism with the federal government’s wolf management plans but did retain language supporting a wolf hunting season should the predator be removed from the Endangered Species list. The delegation, with representation from 37 county Farm Bureaus also adopted language encouraging Idaho to invoke 10th Amendment state sovereignty rights over wolf management on all state and private lands. Farm Bureau spokeman John Thompson explains the language supporting a wolf hunting season: “If we can at least keep support of hunting in our policy book then when and if the state gets them de-listed, and talks seasons and quotas, we can have a seat at the table hopefully.”
