2011 sage grouse funding; Schoesler electronic town hall

Washington Ag Today December 6, 2010 USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service has announced it is providing 30-million dollars in fiscal year 2011 to 11 western states to partner with farmers and ranchers for sage grouse habitat improvement. Washington is getting just over one-million dollars which will be provided through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program and the Wetland Reserve Program.

In making the announcement NRCS Chief Dave White said, “Working together with Western farmers and ranchers, we are creating a landscape where this declining species can not only survive, but will one day thrive.”

State Senator Mark Schoesler is inviting residents of the 9th Legislative District to take part in a telephone town hall meeting tomorrow, December 7th.

Schoesler: “Well I think the timing of this town hall will be really exciting because we will be town for legislative committee meetings. There is a lot of talk about of a possible special session to balance our current budget crisis. And I think having input at exactly the time we could be getting ready for a special session is vital for everyone in the legislature.”

That telephone town hall meeting begins at about 7 p.m. Tuesday. Call in number is 1-877-229-8493 and the PIN is 17455.

Schoesler is the Republican leader on the Senate Agriculture and Rural Economic Development Committee.
