12-8 FB Omega 3 Fatty
You are what you eat…even if you’re a chicken. I’m David Sparks and I’ll explain that one in a minute. In a recent trip to Montana State University I met with an ingenius researcher named Dr. Alice Pilgram who works on, among other things camelina seeds as a source of biofuel. You can fuel cars, tractors airplanes and it could be a great cash crop for producers in Idaho. The facts are that after fuel is extracted from camlina seeds and you’re left with a mash or meal which is full of Omega 3 fatty acids and that has value as well. “ The value of feeding camelina meal to a chicken is that the saying you are what you eat is absolutely true. As you eat Omega 3 fatty acids they get incorporated into your membranes and all your cells they get converted into other compounds that help your body recover from injury and reduced inflamation and the same thing happens in animals. If I feed camelina meal to a chicken, the chicken starts to accumulate Omega 3 fatty acids. Some of it goes into their own systems and some of it gets deposited in eggs.” You can also feed the meal to beef and dairy cattle and you can figure out the rest from there.
