Is grazing of livestock eco-friendly or unfriendly.

Many environmental groups do a lot of litigating against cattlemen over grazing and the supposedly ill effects that such grazing has on public lands. Mylen Bohle, who co-edited the newly released 203-page book "Pasture and Grazing Management in the Northwest,  has a surprising answer: “I think there’s room for livestock, wildlife, birds to be out there and in most instances the livestock can leave the rangeland in better condition if it’s done right. If it’s done improperly, there can be some damage done.”

In Utah, Cache County Executive Lynn Lemon also has something to add on this issue: Land that is grazed and properly managed is a lot better than land that is not. Especially when it comes to wildfires. When we get forest fires they’re a lot worse because there’s been no management of the resources. I don’t think it makes sense to say we just want to stop grazing because grazing if it’s managed properly is good for the land. ”
