Idaho’s wine crop saved by the bell.
Idaho's 2010 harvest has finally come to an end. Although operations got started a little later than normal this fall, the grapes have come in with great potential for crafting outstanding wines.
Most of the varietals were harvested later than normal and the crop load was light, but thanks to the long hang times, sugars were made which will be sure to result in an outstanding vintage for Idaho wines. The Idaho Grape Growers and Wine Producers Commission Executive Director Moya Schatz explains about the effects of cold weather: “It’ not good because you don’t get the sugar and acid levels that you need. However, we got lucky because it stayed so warm in September and we didn’t get a freeze till the middle of Novemeber so it still allowed the sugar levels in the grapes to get up there so they were able to pick.So let’s lift a glass and say cheers, Salude, Bon Appetite.
