11-24 IAN Wyatt talks GIPSA
The GIPSA rules propoed by the Obama administration continue to plague Idaho’s beef industry. I’m DS…Rocky Barker recently wrote an article in The Idaho Statesman with the headline Idaho Cattle Assoc. says new antitrust rules would raise beef prices, cost jobs. In the article he claims Idaho Cattle producers say state beef eaters would pay more than $11 million more for their favorite cuts if an Obama Administration rule on livestock marketing is approved. I called Wyatt Prescott, Executive Director of the Idaho Cattle Association and asked him to explain: “The basic nuts and bolts of the GIPSA rules are that it will take away proof of injury in being able to bring a lawsuit to the packers. In order to bring a lawsuit all you have to show is a measure of unfairness. This will cause a bonanza of lawsuits by trial attorneys and the cost of these lawsuits will be passed onto the consumer or the beef producer or both.” Is that a socialist agenda?
