Washington Cattlemen convene next week

Washington Ag Today November 3, 2010 The Washington Cattlemen’s Association and the Washington CattleWomen’s Association will be holding their 85th Annual Convention next week November 11th through the 13th at Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum.

Committee meetings on Thursday the 11th will start at 7:00 a.m. to provide more time for speakers. During those committee meetings ranchers will get an update on the WCA Bull Test, hear reports from Washington State University scientists on external parasite research as well as the findings of a recent antibiotic residue study. State Veterinarian Dr. Leonard Eldridge will also be speaking.

Thursday’s meetings will also have an update on Washington’s Draft Wolf Management plan and a producer from Arizona talking about the problems at the U.S.-Mexico border.

WCA Executive Vice President Jack Field says those proposed Packers and Stockyards Act regulations be the subject of a panel discussion Friday morning.

Field: “With Ric Stott from AgriBeef and Jess Peterson of the U.S. Cattlemen‘s Association will have a discussion on the proposed GIPSA regulations and what those changes might mean to various segments in the industry and hopefully a good fact finding opportunity for people on both sides of that issue:

The WCA has not yet taken a position on the proposed GIPSA rule.

The Washington Cattlemen’s Association annual meeting will be Friday afternoon and that night Baxter Black performs. Events wrap up Saturday the 13th with the Pfizer Cattlemen’s College.
