Making Plans for the Hort Convention

Making Plans for the Hort Convention. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. For a lot of people the annual meeting of the Washington Hort Association is about seeing old friends, exchanging a few ideas and looking at what's new at the trade show but according to John Verbrugge, current president of the Washington State Horticultural Association there is a lot that goes into planning that. VERBRUGGE: Getting some of the things that we do out on our farms dialed in a little more so we can be cost effective at what we're doing. Learning from other growers how to be more cost effective and also trying to increase our revenue back on the farms by improving the quality of what we are growing. That's really kind of the main focus, trying to improve what the consumer is looking for in what we are doing. The annual meeting will be held at the Yakima Convention Center, December 6, 7 & 8th, 2010. You can register online at www.wahort.org. In addition to a lot of good programs Verbrugge says there is a lot of good conversation in the hallways. VERBRUGGE: I think that people are going to be talking about some of the things out there that are improving our revenue of how they can apply them out in their orchard just because everybody grows in different areas and with different systems and different varieties and hopefully they're going to be talking about that together. This year there will be the opportunity for those attending the trade show to see and hear some of the sessions over a live video link from the convention center. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
