10-21 FB Crop Update

Wet weather is slowing Idaho’s harvests. I’m David Sparks and I’ll be more specific when I return. The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service sent out an overview and it would appear that it’s an iffy kinda report. For most areas of the state, winter seedings are ahead of the five year average but in the Twin Falls area wet weather over the last week slowed hay and bean harvests. Speaking of wet weather, here’s NASS spokesperson Tom Kurtz: “If you look at the days suitable it was slightly less than it normally is and if you look at the wet weather part of it most all the weather stations that we have data for did show some rain for the week so that’s where the wet weather came from. In Idaho it’s unusual to have rainfall in all those areas of the state.” Something that’s big here is winter wheat planting is doing very well in fact ahead of normal in most areas…and that’s not a bad thing.
