8-4 FB Goat's Milk

What’s in a goat? Goat’s milk’s in a goat and some folks from Buhl Idaho are milking the concept. I’m David Sparks. The subject of milk and its health benefits comes up all the time. The traditional viewpoint is that milk’s good for your body and I’d be willing to bet that 99% of us have been brought up with pasteurized milk as a staple in our diets. But then you run into a guy like Peter Dill who’s the owner of Saint John's Organic Farm near Emmett, one of just two Grade A certified raw-milk dairies in Idaho: “The typical thing that brings people to raw milk is a health crisis. Almost all of our customers share this in common either they or someone in their family has had a health crisis.”

Now I read an article in the Magic Valley paper that says Gena Herzinger has a goat-raising operation in Buhl called Green Grass & Sunshine. New rules approved by this year’s Idaho Legislative session have allowed Herzinger to sell raw goats milk to her customers for the past two weeks. Gena says that her customers love the taste and it’s particularly good if you can’t digest cow’s milk or are lactose intolerant. There’s lactose in goat’s milk but she says the fat globules are smaller in goats than in cows. That makes sense ‘cause goats are smaller than cows aren’t they?
