The Plight of Drug Horses

I’m Susan Allen this is Monday’s OpenRange. According to a poll last week conducted by MSNBC whom  I might add has been viciously critical of conservative causes, 97 percent of Americans support Arizona’s efforts to fight illegal immigration. Yet  our president and now his right hand man remain intent on suingArizona, in what I believe is a  misguided quest for the Hispanic vote. There is another unrecognized victim of the illegal drug trade that breaks my heart and makes it impossible to respect this administration’ stance.  More after the  break.  Please visit aginfo.net and see “Hope” I’ve posted her today  on OpenRange I hope  you  are as outraged as I am.  While border ranchers, like my aunt and uncle have had livestock and pets shot by drug cartel, drug horses are a forgotten victim of this travesty.  Drug runners lead horses carrying three to four hundred pound of drugs each and ride them over eighty miles of desert terrain between Tucson and Mexico. Once they deliver the drugs the horses are cut  loose in the hot desert or worse tied up for a slow cruel death. The lucky ones like Hope, (if she  can be called lucky ) are found by our  border patrol or ranchers who take the near death creatures to veterinarian  Michael Robinson who treats deep wounds from cactus,  open back sores from  packs and bowed tendons from carry so much weight. Last year over 75 five drug cartel horses were rescued yet countless more weren’t found in time or still serve  the inhumane outlaws our president is intent on protecting rather than law abiding American citizens and helpless animals.  Tomorrow  a happy ending for Hope.
