6-23 FB CAFO Moratorium

Want to start a CAFO operation in Power County, Idaho. Not so fast. There’s a moratorium. I’m David Sparks and I’ll tell you why in a minute. There have been recent news releases about CAFO’s in the American Falls area and I guess it’s not unreasonable to be careful and judicious about where you confine lots of animals. Setting up a business such as a restaurant, motel or perfume shop downwind of a CAFO would probably not work. So it’s important that Planning and Zoning Commissioners know the what, when and where’s of CAFO placements or changes. So Power County Commissioners have proposed a moratorium on CAFO’s. Here’s Commission Chairwoman Vicki Meadows: “The moratorium is for any remodeling, re-construction, expansion or new CAFO permitting for 182 days while Planning and Zoning looks at the proposed code. To protect the health and welfare of the general public we have to have something in place.
