Weed Tour

Weed Tour

It sounds like a joke. It was so cold…how cold was it? It was so cold that even the weeds didn’t grow. I’m David Sparks and I’ll be back in a minute to explain. We’ve all been talking incessantly about an El Nino spring that has brought not only abundant rains but lots and lots of cold. On the positive side, water scientist Ron Abramovich has said the reservoirs are full as a result and that’s a good thing for ag producers who need to irrigate. However let’s talk cold. Even weeds are slow to grow in the cold, wet weather across Idaho this spring, says Don Morishita, University of Idaho professor of weed science and extension specialist at the Kimberly Research and Extension Center. “Things have been so cold that the tour was delayed because there wouldn’t be too much to see.”

Plants are growing so slowly that the annual Kimberly Weed Research tour will be delayed a week until June 22 as will a similar tour at Aberdeen June 23.
