Farm program sign up deadline approaching
There is another deadline in June and that is for the Conservation Stewardship Program. June 11th is the cut off date for ranking to get funded for this year. Interested producers can sign up for CSP anytime but if they don’t do so by the ranking cut off date they will be waiting for another round of funding. The Conservation Stewardship Program pays producers for maintaining and expanding their conservation practices. Sign up for CSP is through the local Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Farm and Ranch May 20, 2010 June 1st is the deadline for producers to sign up for two of USDA’s farm payment programs; the Direct and Counter-cyclical Payment and the Average Crop Revenue Election or ACRE program. Brandon Willis is with the national office of the Farm Service Agency.
Willis: “I want to remind all the producers to get signed up. We have nearly 75% have already signed up. We want to get the remaining few into the offices to sign up quickly so we can get that taken care of.”
Willis says sign up is running ahead of last year.
Willis: “In fact to give you a perspective. ACRE enrollment, last year 131-thousand farmers enrolled in the ACRE program. This year we already have 120-thousand. So, we will probably exceed what we did last year.”
If you sign up for ACRE you have to stay in that program through the life of the current farm bill. Last year about eight percent of producers nationally enrolled in ACRE representing about 11 percent of base acres.
Willis encourages producers to visit their local FSA office before June 1st. Online is also an option at
