Spring Wines

Spring Wines

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. Today I want to talk about white wines to serve in the spring. Spring is in the air and it is finally warm outside! As a matter of course I always begin stocking up on whites wines in the spring. Recently I have been enjoying some very nice blended white wines many of which have Viognier as a part of the blend. It has a lovely perfume that is unmistakable. It seems to add characteristics that are unusual and refreshing which I think create beautiful white wine. I recommend you look for Viognier on its own or blended with other grapes. Then I am also a lover of bright crisp Sauvignon Blanc, which I feel is a perfect wine with so many spring salads made of bitter greens and fresh spring onions. Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand nearly always has that fabulous grapefruit characteristic that makes it so unique. Another variety that I do not want you to overlook at this time of year is Riesling. There are so many very reasonably priced and delicious Rieslings in the market from bone dry to very sweet there is nothing like it with lunch on the porch. And very often Riesling is a bit lower in alcohol than many other wines. So start tasting and stocking up on white wines during the springtime because summer is right around the corner you know. And thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
