5-3 FB Pesticide Disposal.mp3

Southwest and north Idaho agricultural producers, dealers, applicators and homeowners who are storing unusable pesticides will once again have a safe, legal and free opportunity to dispose of them this May when the Idaho State Department of Agriculture conducts its annual pesticide disposal collections in Nampa, Weiser, Lewiston and Coeur d’Alene Idaho.

Pesticides become unusable for many reasons, including loss of potency, exposure to temperature extremes, cancellation or suspension by state or federal authorities, or growers’ decisions to change their cropping rotations or practices. This spring the Idaho State Department of Agriculture expects to break the million pounds mark of unusable pesticides that will have been safely collected and disposed since the program started in 1993. Vic Mason from ISDA tells us that the program won’t cost a dime to participants. Pesticides become unusable for many reasons, including loss of potency, exposure to temperature extremes, cancellation or suspension by state or federal authorities, or growers’ decisions to change their cropping rotations or practices

Participation is free for the first 1,000 pounds of unusable pesticides per participant.  Anyone with unusable herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and rodenticides should bring them to the closest collection site between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on the date and location listed below.  No fertilizer, micronutrients, paint, solvents or motor oil can be accepted.

Participants will also need to register the total number of pounds of pesticides that they are disposing by calling their local ISDA field office or the Nampa field office at (208) 442-2816.
