President Understands Ag & Immigration Law Flak

President Understands Ag & Immigration Law Flak. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack traveled with President Obama on his rural tour this week. During his comments in Quincy, Illinois, Wednesday afternoon Vilsack said President Obama understands the problems rural America is facing. VILSACK: The President listens and has been listening for the last several months about the pain and difficulty that's being experienced throughout the country. He understands and appreciates that in rural areas across this country it hasn't just been the last year or two, it's been a longer period of time and he wants you to know that he is focused on creating a framework. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. says the Justice Department may sue Arizona over a new state law that authorizes police to question the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being in the country illegally. Holder says he's very concerned about the wedge it could draw between communities that law enforcement is supposed to serve and those of us in law enforcement. Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has backed away from his pledge to fast-track overhaul of the nation's immigration laws. Reid hopes that once the debate on financial regulations is completed, and - if you have a bill that's ready to go, that's the one I'm going to go to. Now here's today's Washington Grange Report. (GRANGE) That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
