Corn Cob Gas
Gas for $4/gallon. How ‘bout this…let’s go for under $2. Don’t rev your engines…be patient. I’ll be right back with the details. Doug Berven is the Director of Corporate Affairs for the ethanol manufacturer POET and he says the company is making great strides in producing cellulosic ethanol economically. He's excited about the future of cellulosic ethanol - provided the government raises the limit on how much ethanol can be blended into gasoline. He says the industry is at that limit today - and farmers and other stakeholders need assurance the market will be allowed to grow. Raising the ethanol blend rate from 10-percent to 15-percent would give the industry a number of years of growth. POET opened a demonstration facility in Scotland, South Dakota 15 months ago and they are making ethanol out of corn cobs: “We’ve brought the production costs down for cellulosic ethanol from about $4.50/gal to $2.35 today. By the time we build our first commercial scale facility, we vhave every expectation to be producing ethanol from corn cobs for under $2/gallon.”
I’m thinking that ought to work.
