Dairy Expose

Dairy Expose

Utah Farm Bureau CEO Randy Parker has taken on the anti ag world. I’m David Sparks and I’ll be right back with the good fight…the noble fight. I had a conversation the other day with Randy Parker who has taken up the banner on behalf of the ag world which isn’t surprising given that he’s CEO of the Utah Farm Bureau. Randy has orchestrated effort towards getting ag friendly books into Utah’s public schools and has been publicly criticized and humiliated for his efforts.

But listen to what he has to say about some press that dairymen have recently received. “Did you watch the program last night on dairy farming? No, I did not. Last night on Nightline they did an expose on the dirty little secrets on dairy farming and of course the spokesman was on from HSUS. This is an interesting time of year to go into a dairy operation because if one is down because they get old, they’re down in the mud. Well they showed these close-ups of these cows down in the mud. Then they showed de-horning and de-tailing and when they do that they cauterize. The report made this look like it’s horrible. They show that and most of the people that live in their high rise apartments really don’t understand that that’s been an historic part of animal agriculture  and their done for a reason, for sanitation for the milk going to the people, or de-horning for safety.”

If you live in a high rise apartment, the next time you order a latte at Starbucks or enjoy a medium rare filet mignon, ask yourself how it got there.
