New Potato Board Member
The mission of the United States Potato Board is to increase demand for potatoes and potato products through an integrated promotion program. This mission provides US producers with expanding markets for their production. U. S. Potato Board programs are designed to maximize return on every grower’s investment, regardless of the industry segment they grow for or where they live. Over the past several years, their programs have undergone significant changes, enhancing both their relevance and importance to both growers and to the industry. This was accomplished by an increased focus on targeted activities and through heightened grower/leader committee involvement. Emphasis is placed on education and training for growers and shippers to improve their ability to deal with a changing consumer and retail environment.
What is this…an infomercial for spuds? Kinda. This is the Potato State after all but it gets better. We now have an Idahoan on the Board. Her name is Cheryl Koompin from American Falls and as the web publication Journalnet.com says, Cheryl has mashed, stacked, grown and promoted potatoes and been surrounded by the vegetable her entire life. Now she’ll be one of the head advocates for potatoes in the country. But we’re not through. I tried reaching Frank Muir, Executive Director of the Idaho Potato Commission, but he was in meetings. His Executive Assistant Alise passed him a note and this is what Frank responded: “We support her appointment 100% and she is highly qualified to serve in this position.”
I don’t know about you but if I was ever looking for a job and could get someone to come up with a recommendation like that…I’d be pretty happy.
