Don't Skip Breakfast & Saying Goodbye

Don’t Skip Breakfast & Saying Goodbye plus Food Forethought. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

Breakfast for a lot of people can be elusive. Not enough time or not hungry after you crawl out. According to nutrition expert Sandy Proctor you are missing out on a lot of benefits.

PROCTOR: There really are some quick options when it comes to breakfast and the benefits are really well documented. We are less likely to be over-weight and to over-eat at lunch if we eat breakfast, everything from being able to think more clearly to perform better on tests. We know that kids get along better with friends, classmates if they’ve eaten breakfast.

True confession time. I dropped out of high school typing class since I just could not see myself ever needing the skill. (chuckle) So I end up being a writer, there’s an ironic twist. I love to write and to read other peoples writing especially Robert B. Parker. Even if you haven’t read any of his books you’ve probably seen one of them as a TV show starring Tom Selleck or Robert Urich. Parker died suddenly yesterday at his home in Massachusetts.

Now with today’s Food Forethought, here’s Lacy Gray.

Times are tough and making ends meet is a challenge to say the least, that’s why federal and state governments are working at doing something about it. Yup, they’re going to raise taxes, in some instances they’re plans include double taxation. Most of us find this unbelievable and yet sadly not at all surprising. Increasing taxes is more often than not the plan of choice for government when they find themselves short on funds. Rather than reduce the cost of government lawmakers generally opt for the old standby of increasing the tax burden of businesses, farmers and ranchers.  While some supporters of tax increases claim that it hits only the elite the majority of the population is all too familiar with the old adage, “you know what runs down hill.” It may hit the elite first but the aftermath will undoubtedly affect all economic groups and hinder economic recovery even longer. Instead of pouring salt into an already raw and festering economic wound legislators need to find solutions for budget deficits that don’t involve increased taxation.

Thanks Lacy. That’s today’s Northwest Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
