I’m Bob Hoff and that’s the Northwest Farm and Ranch Report on the Northwest Ag Information Network.

Farm and Ranch December 17, 2009 A new seed treatment for cereals from Bayer CropScience will be available to growers in 2010. It is called Proceed. Nate Anderson of Bayer says Proceed prevents costly losses from diseases that threaten seeds and seedlings from the moment the seed hits the ground.

Anderson: “The thing that makes Proceed different is that it actually gives you, what we say, more green from the start.  By giving that crop a really good early season protection against a number of diseases, that can be a big problem, especially here in the Pacific Northwest. Where we see Proceed performing really well is against some of the other products out there. Especially against the early season Rhizoctonia and early season Fusarium.”

Anderson says Proceed contains three active ingredients, one of which is a new product discovered by Bayer CropScience. The new seed treatment will eventually replace Raxil.

Anderson: “And our Raxil products will still be available during the course of 2010, but in 2010 we are going to transition to Proceed because we really have upped the standard of protection over what we offered with Raxil. This one, especially on early season Rhizoctonia and Fusarium, is going to be a better product.”

There will be two formulations of Proceed.

Anderson; “We are going to have what we call our Proceed MD formulation, which is our micro dispersion formulation. That is actually in a five-ounce rate, formulated for on-farm type use  And then, we are also going to have a commercial formulation that is a one-ounce per hundred pound use rate, that is formulated specifically for seed conditioners.”
