Western Legacy Alliance

Do you feel hemmed in…pinched by political correctness and enviromania?  Are your livestock being muscled and herded by some wilderness conservation group run by non-profit lawyers who charge taxpayers $650/hr and have never stepped deeper into the wilderness than their condo in Sun Valley. Here’s a mission statement from the Western Legacy Alliance: We strive to preserve the working landscapes and lifestyles of the American West. We do this by supporting and promoting sustainable land-use solutions to ensure social and economic benefits for local communities and the nation.

The WLA campaign allows stakeholders to change gears from reactionary tactics to a pro-active plan to address the issues affecting all of you. By creating a coalition of like-minded organizations and individuals from a variety of backgrounds we effectively demonstrate broad interest in advocating for responsible access to public lands.

The coalition works to raise awareness of the economic value of working lands and raise the profile of public land issues with the general public to help guarantee the multiple-use of federal lands and private property rights for the next generation. Here’s one of the founders, Wally Butler. “Western Legacy Alliance was kind of an outgrowth of a cooperative deal that the Idaho Farm Bureau and Idaho Cattle Association started out 2-3 years ago, mostly just to try to tell the rest of the story about what happens on our public land rather than the publicity that comes out of the environmental groups. Basically that cause is to be able to keep folks on the land whether they be grazers, recreational folks, timber folks or whatever.
