 Ethanol plants in Burley and Caldwell, Idaho have slowed or shut down completely. Pacific ethanol, a huge operation backed by Bill Gates and other investors filing bankruptcy paperwork…the news ain’t good in this industry. But Idaho Republican Congressman Mike Simpson just looked at Idaho Sustainable Energy in Glenns Ferry and said he would support the Department of Energy granting the company a loan guarantee and plans to telephone DOE officials when he returns to Washington D.C. Idaho Sustainable Energy plans to build an Advanced Biorefinery Complex to produce cellulosic ethanol, biodiesel and high value chemical products from agricultural and municipal waste, used oils and algae production. Here’s Nikki Watts, Senator Simpson’s Communication Director in Boise. “ They have innovative technology out there. The capabilities of what they’re able to do there with existing facilities with minor modifications, is really going to be an asset to our country. As you see more global warming and information like that being more readily available or more talked about, there’s this growing need for green technology. This offers exactly that.
