Wine Scholarships Available
Wine Scholarships Available. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.
So you’ve looked into your college courses and a future in wine making seems to be your destiny. Now it is time to pull out the wallet and pay for that future and that is where the Washington Wine Industry Foundation comes in.
SCHARLAU: The Washington Wine Industry Foundation was organized in the late 90’s as an internal industry structure to meet the needs of the industry and one of those needs was to provide opportunities for industry members to initiate scholarships.
Vicky Scharlau is the executive director of the foundation and says there are some great opportunities for students.
SCHARLAU: The industry is very proud of the fact that they’ve been able to garner over $10,000 worth of scholarships every year to give to enology and viticulture students throughout the state. This year for 2009 we have actually over $13,000 for students to apply for.
There are several scholarships that you can apply for.
SCHARLAU: There’s 4 major scholarships; one from the Horse Heaven Hills wine growers, one called the Walter Clore Scholarship which is from the wine grape growers, one honoring John Farmer and that scholarship is based on demonstrated financial need and then a new one this year is for S.W. Bill Preston to honor the memory of their father.
That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
