Sign up underway for 2010 crop farm support programs

Farm and Ranch October 13, 2009 The USDA has opened sign up for the 2010 crop versions of the big farm support programs; the older Direct and Counter Cyclical Program, DCP, and the new ACRE Program, Average Crop Revenue Election Program. Dan McGlynn with USDA’s Farm Service Agency says the sign up runs through June 1st of 2010.

McGlynn: “Sign up can be conducted either by visiting the local county FSA office or there is the option to sign on line through a process known as E-DCP, electronic DCP. There is a website to do that. In order to accomplish signing up on line it is necessary to have what is called eAuthentication. So that has to be obtained in order to sign up electronically over the internet. But it is certainly possible to do that and encouraged to prevent, or not require anyway a visit to the county office. A producer can just sign up and accomplish that on line.”

McGlynn reminds producers what selection of the new ACRE program means.

McGlynn: “That farm is enrolled in ACRE for the life of the farm bill, which goes through the 2012 crop year.”

Producers signing up for DCP for 2010 may request to receive advance direct payments based on 22 percent of the direct payment. USDA says it will issue advance direct payments beginning December 1st of this year.
