Travel: Finding Food & Wine

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. I am heading out on a trip to Washington DC and a friend asked if I was planning to visit any particular restaurants with food and wine in mind, and how do I go about finding a restaurant with a good wine list when on vacation?”

Interesting you should ask as I am about to take a trip and do no research at all before leaving. However usually I am in charge of this very thing and here is how I approach it. First, I ask everyone I know and everyone that I meet, if they recommend a spot in the city that I am traveling. I make note of their recommendations. Second, I visit the internet and look at the recommendations from some of my favorite magazines. I make a list of places that sound like fun in as many different price ranges and varying types of cuisine that I can find. Then I put together a list of my top 10 choices and go back to the internet. I spend a little time at any of the top 10 selections that have a website. I want to get a better look at the menu and hopefully the wine list. Then I decide which ones are best and I contact the Concierge at our hotel and ask them to make reservations. Usually a concierge has a bit more pull at a restaurant that may be difficult to get into, and you have a written confirmation with the name of the persons who made and took the reservations. But this trip I just plan to get recommendations from the locals! Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
