Miscanthus 1

Miscanthus 1

You know it’s crazy…this world of information, computers and communication. All the advanced tech guys I know in the ag world are saying that producers have to get plugged in, in order to keep up. For a guy like me that wasn’t born with a laptop in his lap …and I’m guessing, most of you, keeping up can be intimidating. What’s all this nonsense that our kids do with Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Twitter…blah, blah blah. Part of the problem is that when these internet sites were launched, as parents we heard about all the negatives. Our kids were consumed with being on the computer, they weren’t doing their school work, pedophiles were lurking and looking for child victims, kids were sending sexually explicit information…you name it, bad things were happening so who needs it. I’ll use my Blackberry and get weather reports, e-mail and quotes.

But wait. If you can just take a minute…and I mean…a minute…grit your teeth, take a deep breath and look and learn…get over the fear…you’d be amazed at what’s available in terms of information. And you know what? Information can make you money. Want you to listen quickly to something I heard while cruising around the on the web, which led me to Facebook which led to YouTube: “This is a photograph of a perennial grass called miscanthus.”

That’s Energy Secretary Steven Chu talking about a crop you should know about…tomorrow.
