Pesticide Recycling Program

Pesticide Recycling Program

Agricultural producers, dealers, professional applicators and homeowners who are storing unusable pesticides will have a safe, legal and free opportunity to dispose of them this September when the Idaho State Department of Agriculture conducts its annual unusable pesticide collections in Rexburg, American Falls, Burley, and Twin Falls. One might wonder why we want to dispose of pesticides, which are obviously very expensive, and Idaho Department of Agriculture Administration information officer Victor Mason explains: “These pesticides can become unusable because of changing cropping practices, freezing, loss of registration, numerous types of reasons that they can no longer be used.” And Mason says it’s amazing how many producers participate: “We get a lot of participation from growers, we usually run in the neighborhood of about 35-40 thousand pounds in these 4 collections.” Now here’s where web sites are great. Come to AgInfo.net and I’ll have all the times, telephone numbers and locations posted for you…just to make life a little easier.

Participation is free for the first 1,000 pounds of unusable pesticides per participant. Pesticides include – herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, rodenticides or anything with a “cide” at the end and should be brought to the closest collection site between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on the date and location listed below. (Sorry no fertilizer, micronutrients, paint, solvents, or motor oil can be accepted.)

Participants will need to register the total number of pounds of pesticides that they are disposing by calling their local ISDA field office.
