Nema Q

Nema Q

“It’s a round worm and they’re tiny worms, microscopically small worms and some of them feed on the roots of plants, they’re called plant parasitic and they feed on a variety of roots and they damage the roots so that the roots are not able to uptake water and nutrients.” That’s Randy Dodds, Manager of Organic Products for Monterey Ag Resources and he doesn’t want to bring problems to farmers without providing solutions. The problem…nematodes…The solution…Nema-Q.

(Dodds) “Nema Q is a naturally occurring product that we started to market last year.” Tell me why this is a totally organic product. “Well it’s extracted from a tree called Quillaja, grows native to Chile.”

And it’s  listed by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) for use in organic production. It acts directly on the plant parasite nematodes that cause damage by feeding on roots, and according to Dodds, is highly effective in a wide range of agricultural applications. These include vegetables, tree fruit and vine crops. Tests on potatoes are scheduled to start this year in the Northwest.
