New Favorite Dessert Wine

New Favorite Dessert Wine

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. As many of you know my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time. Today I want to talk about one of my new favorite dessert wines.

Well summer in eastern Washington wine country has been toasty and I for one love it. In addition we have fabulous fruit from the time the cherries start in the spring all of the way through peaches berries and apples and pears in the fall. Since I am not much of a dessert baker I rely heavily on really fresh fruit and great store bought cookies for my guests. In addition, I serve more dessert wine in the summer. It is a refreshing way to end a meal. Recently I dug into the wine cellar and pulled out a very nice Campbells Liquid Gold Tokay. I just want to say it is no coincidence this wine is called liquid gold. It is rich in sweet fruit, quite intense and mouth filling for sure, and because it is balanced by good acidity it is not cloying. It has elements that lend themselves well to toffee and caramel although I enjoy it most with fresh peaches and vanilla waffle cookies. I had Liquid Gold Tokay with toasted pecans and almonds along with shortbread cookies and that was fabulous as well. I think this wine could be perfect all by itself but I haven’t tried that --- yet. So think about dessert wines to use as the focus to a simple dessert of fresh fruit and cookies.  Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
