Setback Rule for Waste in Idaho

Setback Rule for Waste in Idaho

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is seeking public input on a new rule establishing setback distances for agricultural waste storage. The new rule is intended to apply to agricultural waste storage on property that is not a beef cattle animal feeding operation or a dairy.

As is all too often the case with government agency announcements, that language needs clarification. You just heard what the rule is not intended to apply to, but you didn’t hear what it is intended to apply to. So, here’s ISDA information officer John Bilderback to help us out. “Ag waste that’s on 3rd party land.  Waste that’s not part of a beef NMP or beef NMP (Nutrient Management Plan) but waste that gets moved over to Farmer Jones and having some setbacks relating to that waste, if it’s potato waste, onion waste, manure, whatever.”

Hearings begin at ISDA on August 10th between 1 and 4 PM and hopefully won’t be a waste of time for interested parties.
