The Renaud Society

The Renaud Society

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. The Renaud Society, is named for and honors Professor Serge Renaud, who is the father of the French Paradox, a study concluding the French owed a great deal of their health to the moderate consumption of red wine.

I find it impressive that a group of medical professionals have created a society revolving around wine. It is a society with an interest in better health and a passion for wine … honoring the legacy of Professor Renaud ... They support wine and health research and promote sharing wine interests with their colleagues worldwide. The week before last they were in Walla Walla Washington holding the 5th international wine and health summit. As part of the conference the group conducts a blind wine tasting. They award what is called the Renaud Tastevin with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. I stopped by Skylite Cellars in Walla Walla to taste wines just after the awards had been announced – The notice read - It is my distinct pleasure to inform you the 2006 Skylite Cellars Reserve, entered into the Renaud Society Blind Wine Competition for the esteemed Renaud Tastevin, has been awarded a gold medal, and scored the highest of all entries. The Reserve, which is a blend of Malbec, Carmenere and Cabernet Sauvignon is rather delicious. I like the restrained use of oak. It is so well integrated. If you want some do not wait if you miss out, all I will say is I told you so … and thanks for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
