Idaho Apples

Idaho Apples

It’s been a crazy spring and Idaho has seen more than its fair share of rain and sleet and snow. Rarely do you hear ag producers complain about precipitation, but we’ve surveyed wheat growers, barley farmers, hay producers, potato people and the list goes on and on. Those who have been victim, yes I did say victim, of the abundance of rain have weighed in with the impact on their particular crops and it hasn’t all been pretty.  Even cherry growers have met up with over saturation problems.

Now let’s talk apples. What’s the state of apples in the State of Idaho’s. I caught up with Roger Williamson, one of the principals of Williamson’s Orchard and he reported what’s going on with his operation, which apparently is fairly representative of apple growers in general: “Apples in Idaho, there’s none available for sale, they’re all sold so the crop on the trees is what’s there and it’s a normal crop, maybe a little on the light side compared to lat year.”

So you have not been impacted by all of the rain?

“Apples and rain don’t have a problem with each other.”
