Painted Dreams
One horse breed publication had a certain subject that kept coming up throughout the quarterly. I'm Jeff Keane; I'll be back in one minute to tell you about that theme.
The American Paint Horse Association's "Connection" magazine has all the usual care, training, pedigree and member's contribution articles of these breed publications, but it was the little news notes that actually caught my attention. Many of these updates told of the charity work the American Paint Horse Association and its members have undertaken. Jim Borgeson, owner of Thirsty Peppy, aka "Toby" has raised over $185,000 to help needy people in the U.S. and third world countries. The 501(c)(3) organization, Toby the People's Horse Inc. recently provided money for ten scholarships, business loans for 17 women, and a medicine kit for animals all in a community in Nicaragua. The American Paint Horse Foundation has started a therapeutic riding fund with initial donations totaling $25,000 with several fundraising events planned for the 2009 year. One of my favorite charity accounts related how American Junior Paint Horse Association president, Banks Ready, helped raise $60,000 for his service project "Painting Dreams." This money will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. These are the positive stories of American young people and American horse owners that need to be told. I'm Jeff Keane.
