America's Favorite Vegetable

America's Favorite Vegetable

Potatoes are America's favorite vegetable. Potato farmers in Idaho should lift a glass of champagne to toast this great news. But who found out about spud popularity and who voted?

Frank Muir, President and CEO, Idaho Potato Commission. “We recently had our ad agency contract with an independent research company called Kelton Research out of NYC to conduct an independent study to ask consumers what their favorite vegetable is. By far the winner was potatoes. This was an internet survey so you can reach people from California to Maine. Potatoes are America’s favorite vegetable, of course, I added Idaho because we all know when it comes to potatoes, Idaho is America’s favorite potato too. The potato has so much versatility to it. No. 1 it’s a great canvas to either add texture to or flavors to, and it’s wonderful for an executive chef or an at home chef. We are emphasizing how important a potato is in terms of its nutritional value, whether it’s Vitamin C where it’s 45% of your minimum daily value, high in potassium, twice the potassium of a banana, and you get lots of minerals as well, all in a portion controlled size.”
