Super Ranch Kid

Super Ranch Kid

(Steiner) I grew up on the same farm/ranch here in Oreana. My folks run commercial beef cattle, primarily an Angus herd. And then we also raise hay. As far as just growing up on a ranch is concerned, you learn a lot of responsibility and self leadership, at a very young age because you’re expected to do a lot of things that other kids aren’t expected to do at the same age you are. Driving a tractor or gathering cows or doctoring calves…things like that.

You’re hearing what it can be like to be a ranch kid in Idaho. The military will tell you that they recruit a lot in rural, farm communities because many of the kids have a strong sense of values…like J.R. Steiner.

(Steiner) Realized that I had always been involved in different organizations, always gotten good grades, been involved in sports. I wanted to get a higher education and I also wanted to serve in the military, it seemed almost natural that an academy would be a good place for me to go.

And the Academy that he selected and selected him back was Air Force in Colorado Springs.

(Steiner) Going to a military academy, I really feel like I’m giving something back because I really do feel blessed that I had the opportunity to be raised on a ranch and in a good family.
