Governor Otter and the De-listing of Wolves

Idaho Governor Butch Otter and the Congressional Delegation sent a letter to President Barack Obama asking him to allow publication of a federal rule removing wolves from the list of endangered species and implementing Idaho's state wolf management plan.

"Idaho has a long and successful history of managing big game and other species," the letter states. "We are prepared to manage wolves in a sustainable manner within our borders. " The letter was signed by Governor Otter. U.S. Senators Crapo and Risch, U.S. Representatives Simpson and Minnick. I had a follow-up discussion with the Governor.

(Otter) “ We’ve built some great partnerships. When my good friend Chairman Penny from the Nez Perce tribe sent a letter that concluded, as my letter did, that it’s time for us to assume the role of management and assume the role right here in Idaho, that was a big help. That gives me more hope than anything I’ve seen in a long time.”
