Farm to Market Foods
This world has become so hi-tech…that some would suggest it’s high-time to get back to our original rots. Simpler ways of life, taking time to smell the roses, farm to market produce. Hey…there’s an idea that’s brilliant in it’s simplicity…actually eating food that was grown on a local ranch. It’s an idea that’s being carried out in Boise by Sustainable Community Connections of Idaho who’s Executive Director, Beth Geagan, ultimately wants to create a network for Idaho farmers to sell their locally raised food to Idaho consumers.
(Geagan) “Sustainable Community Connections of Idaho has been developed and established to be a resource for all things local. One of our focuses in 2009 will be the local food system. For local farmers the critical thing we need to do in terms of creating a local food system is to engage our local producers. We recognize that even thogh we’re an agriculture state, we haven’t really created a great environment for food to be sold and consumed locally. When we create an opportunity which our organization will help do by creating education and awareness by the people who are the eaters of the food, that local food is important then we hope to create on the demand side the desire for the local food, and then also work with the supply side with the producers and partner with other organizations that producers are working with.”
