Farm Bill-Unclarified
The latest farm bill has language that’s tough to understand. I talked to an expert and even he was confused in places. Let’s smile along with him.
(Sparks)”You’ve got to have 3 Ph.D.’s in Economics to understand the Farm Bill.” (Expert) “(Laughter) I loved that when you left that on your message, I thought I’m going to use that as a quote when I’m doing training for these things.”
(Sparks) “Give me your interpretation in English.” (Expert)
“In 25 words or less, I subscribe to the theory that if you can’t explain it in 25 words, you don’t understand it, which means I can’t do it.”
(Expert)”DCP program, that one’s pretty much untested. We don’t know how that’s going to shake out for a producer.
(Expert) “A support available for every farm with a base acre. I guess I’m going to have to stop there. That’s all we know about it right now.”
(Sparks) “A farmer takes a loss and he applies for this program and I guess you can think it’s big Daddy, and big Daddy says OK we’re going to reimburse you, but that would happen within about a year?” (Expert) “Yeah” (Sparks) “What does he do in between?” (Expert with long sigh).
(Sparks) “That’s a quotable sigh.” (Expert laughs)
(Sparks) “How is the money meted out…who makes the judgement?” (Expert) Tough question. I’ve stepped away from my desk, so I’m going to have to go back so I can quote you the procedure exactly right.”
