Census of Ag & Digital Switch

Census of Ag & Digital Switch

Census of Ag & Digital TV Switch. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

The 2007 Census of Agriculture was released on Wednesday and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says the variety of data obtained through the recent Census of Agriculture will play a key part in explaining the importance of farming and ranching to America.

VILSACK: This census is a roadmap. It tells us where we are going and to a certain extent, where we have been. And perhaps most importantly what we need to do from this point forward. 85% of ranchers and farmers throughout this country took the time and the effort to respond so that we have a good statistical basis for direction. I’m afraid that far too few Americans fully appreciate and understand the difficult challenges, the hard work, the financial risk that’s involved in agriculture.

Next week we will take an in-depth look at the 2007 Census of Agriculture.

Congress has finally decided to give TV viewers a bit more time to convert from analog to digital. The off-again, on-again decision was made due to the fear that too many American’s weren’t prepared for the Feb. 17th deadline so they pushed the date to June 12. But some areas are planning on making the switch as planned including Seattle TV stations. They have petitioned the FCC to allow them to go ahead with the digital switch. Bottom line is either you will be ready or not to continue catching your favorite programs.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange Report.
